21 Day Devotion Day 5: Prioritizing the Presence

This is day 5 of our 21 Days of Prayer, Fasting, and Personal Devotion. The first day was on Sunday, March 26th and we will celebrate on the last day, Easter Sunday, April 16th

Matthew 5:6  Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Are you struggling with something? Is it your heart’s desire to follow Jesus and see his work completed in your life? Do you really, really, really want to live a life pleasing to the Lord? I have great news: Jesus said if you make that the priority of your life you will achieve it.

In our day and age it is hard to hunger and thirst for anything because there are so many things that fight to satisfy our souls. If we feel lonely we can reach for virtual friends on social media. If we feel empty we can try to satisfy that feeling by charging something we can’t afford. We can deaden the longing of our souls with temporary fixes both benign and malignant.

Jesus gives us the precious gift of longing for him. We can’t waste this invitation to be satisfied. We have to cherish this promise like Mary cherished the words of the prophet in her heart. We can’t settle for mere comfort. We need to sanctify ourselves for the fulfillment of the promised satisfaction of those who were blessed to wait on God.

The presence of God and his righteousness can’t be a high priority in our lives, it has to be the highest priority. When we spend our lives with a hunger and thirst for it, God promises to come and abide.

Be aware of your need for God’s righteousness today.
