A message to the folks at Revival Life Church
As we step into 2025, I am excited to invite the committed members of Revival Life Church to join a new discipleship group I will be leading. This group is a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of God’s Word, grow in your faith, and build connections with others who are passionate about following Jesus.
If you are looking for a general discipleship group, do not worry. We will be launching one early in January, so stay tuned for more details.
This group is specifically designed for the core members of Revival Life Church. It is for those who consistently attend in person when they are in town, actively serve in a ministry area, faithfully contribute financially, and are eager to disciple others. If that does not describe you right now, no problem. We will have new members classes and foundational discipleship groups starting soon that might be a better fit for your journey.
Here are the expectations:
Daily Reflections: We will read one chapter of the Bible each day and share reflections in a private WhatsApp group. Insights should be shared before noon to keep the conversation going. They can be as simple as a verse that stood out to you or as deep as you want to go. No voice messages.
Study Resources: We will use trusted resources to help us study the Bible, especially in areas that may be difficult to understand. While it’s nice to hear different perspectives on what the Bible might mean, it’s even more valuable to dig into what it actually means. You don’t need to build an academic library, but I believe a single-volume Bible commentary at a minimum is essential for anyone serious about reading and understanding Scripture.
So commit to owning one of these resources:
- Eerdmans Commentary of the Bible I recommend the paperback ($74)
but the Kindle version is only $2.That’s not it. Sorry. You can buy the earlier version here for $2.That isn’t it either. You can find it half priced used if you look around, ebay, alibris, etc. - The New Bible Commentary – On sale now for $43 at Amazon.
- Here is a link to a teaching I did on a cheap way of building a bible library. Any of the options linked in the comments will work. If you plan to become a student of the Bible, Logos is the cheapest and easiest way to build your library. The downside is you can’t loan out books.
- There are also options to get memberships to BibleGateway but I am not familiar with those.
Monthly Gatherings: Once a month, we will meet for lunch at my home or the church. These gatherings will give us a chance to share what we are learning and encourage one another in discipleship. I may just talk about what Holy Spirit is talking to me about. We may go deep in something we read.
If this sounds like something you want to be part of, let me know. If it feels like too much right now, that’s okay too. We will have other options for growing in faith in 2025.
I’m looking forward to what God will do in our lives as we walk this out together.
